Measuring Your Kitchen

Follow the simple steps below and you can create a floor plan with all the information needed for us to begin a kitchen design for you. Download and print the Graph paper(available on the Resources Menu) drawing your floor plan to scale makes everything much easier to read and understand. If you don't have a printer, just make sure all measurements and drawing are accurate. Follow the instructions below to guide you.

1. Using the graph paper, draw a rough outline of your kitchen.

2. Measure every wall, beginning at the left corner, to the far right corner. Write down the total measurement in inches.

3. Go back and measure from the left corner to the edge of any opening, such as a window or door.

4. Measure across the opening from outside edge of trim to outside edge of trim.

5. Measure from that trim edge to the far wall. Go back and total the measurements from steps 3, 4, and 5. They should equal the measurement in step 2.

6. Mark on your drawing, the exact location of the sink, water and gas lines, wall switch & receptacles, and all other obstructions in the room as well as the walls. Be sure to measure to the center of these and not the edge.

7. Measure from the floor to the bottom of your windows and write it down.

8. Measure from the bottom of the window to the top of the window. Always from outside edge of the window trim.

9. Measure from the top of the window to the ceiling and mark it down.

10. Measure from the floor to the ceiling. Total the measurements from steps 7, 8, and 9. They should equal this measurement.

11. If you haven't already, measured the width of any doors, know is the time to do so measure from outside of door trim to outside of door trim.

12. Indicate on your drawing how each door swings/opens. If it swings/opens In to or out of the room in addition to which side the hinge are on.

13. Measure all other walls in the kitchen following steps 2 through 12. Note that all walls must b measured even if you do not plan to put cabinets on them. This step is pertinent information for our designers so that they may be able to present you with a proper design plan.

14. Measure all appliances including stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and sink.

15. Double check your measurements as well as your diagram for accuracy. These measurements must be 100% correct for your new cabinetry to fit correctly in your newly designed kitchen.
